Terrain Morphology in RPGJS Studio
The map editor now goes beyond flat terrain painting. RPGJS Studio introduces a terrain morphology system built for visual quality: you can shape the ground itself with holes, mountains, and walls, then combine those forms with water and surface textures to create a stronger atmosphere.
Before, terrain editing was mostly about blending a small set of ground textures. Now the map can carry real relief: a lake can sit inside a carved hole, a plateau can rise above the ground, and a wall can frame a path or a cave entrance.
Holes, Water, Mountains, and Walls
Terrain improvements can now define the shape of the map:
- Holes create lower areas in the terrain.
- Water can be placed inside holes to build ponds, lakes, or flooded zones.
- Mountains add raised areas and cliffs.
- Walls help create stronger boundaries and structured terrain forms.
These tools make the world feel less procedural and more intentional. Instead of relying only on decorative objects, the terrain itself can express the geography of the place.
More Textures for Better Terrain
The terrain system is no longer limited to only four textures. You can use many more terrain textures in the same map, which makes it easier to create natural transitions and richer environments.
That means a single outdoor area can mix grass, dirt, rock, sand, water, path details, cliff surfaces, and other materials without forcing everything into the same small texture set.

Built for Visual Ambience
This update is mainly about rendering quality. The goal is to give creators better control over the mood of a world: a misty lake, a rocky pass, a mountain path, a cave-like depression, or a layered forest area can now be shaped directly inside the map editor.
Terrain morphology gives maps more depth, more variation, and a stronger visual identity without requiring custom engine code.
